Discover Personal Challenges

A Journey of Life with God

by Kaila Christine L. Mecija

Fun. Exciting. Engaging. Realistic. Heart-pounding. These are the words that you will realize when you are with the group of people named ' Every Nation Campus'.

It was a very pleasant afternoon when we had a couple of words from God. God is very powerful, you just call His name and he will listen to your words. If you have a problem that you can't share to your friend or family, just speak to God and he will help you.

We all have personal challenges, it might be hard or it might be easy. We have to face our own challenges so that we will grow and will learn a lesson after you face your challenge. Having personal challenges has a good side because you can be more mature than before.

Having an interaction with Every Nation Campus is good because I realized many things and I had a time to think about myself and about the existence of God. I learned that to never give up if you have a challenge that you think cannot pass. If I am having a challenge, I am not the type of person who shares it with her family or friends because I do not like expressing myself to others.

I realized that my classmates had a harder challenge than mine. I admit I want to cry during that time but I tried to stop it from falling because I don't like expressing myself in public. Yes, my classmates were crying during that time but I am not and it doesn't mean that I don't have personal challenges or problems, its just that I don't want others to see me crying.

I can say that having Every Nation Campus here in our school is nice because we tend to share our thoughts with each other and the members of ENC is very good in speaking because their thoughts were truly effective because it captured our hearts and minds.

English Fest 2017

By Kaila Christine L. Mecija

Book Week is one of the celebration during the month of November but due to unexpected events, Quezon National High School celebrates the Book Week Festival last December 5-7, 2017 at QNHS Gymnasium  . During the celebration of Book Week Festival, there were a lot of programs and activities such as Characters on parade, Living Gallery, Quiz Bee, Song Translation, Bookmark Making, VJ Hunt, Dance Drama, Dramatic Choric Reading, Theatrical Speech Choir, Campference, Search For God and Goddess 2017 and many more.

During the first day of the celebration, characters on parade and living gallery were the events. My contribution to the success of the event in day 1 was organizing and guarding the photo booth and the making of the backdrops for the gods and goddesses of the living gallery. My experience in the day 1 of the event is very nice because as I browse the living gallery of each living gallery, my feeling is like I am reminiscing the memories of my past year levels.

During the second day of the event, many individual and group contests were launched. My contribution to the success of the event in Day 2 was cheering the participants for theatrical speech choir from our program. My experience to the success of the event in the day 2 is also nice because the pariticipants from our program won and that’s very worth it experience for them.

During the day 3 of the event there were campference and Search for God and Goddess 2017. The word “Campference”  is from its root word camp and conference. During E-Campference, there was a ‘Symposium’ that was joined by students from different grade levels. The guest speaker of the said event is Garry Villaverde, a professional director who won in a National category and the other one is a professional DJ who known as “Sammy Babe”  of 90.7 Love Radio.

My experience to the success of the event is very nice. The speakers of the event is really a professional, they taught us tips on making short films and radio dramas. You can say that they are very professional just by listening to the content of their speeches. The speaker for the short film let us watch some of his own short films such as Positive, The First Love and Silang Mga Walang Mukha. I can say that his team is very good in that field, they know how to capture good angles and they know how to organize the scenes. In radio drama, the speaker taught us on how to modulate voices because it is one of the important aspects in doing a radio drama. You need to know how to use your voice.

My contribution to the success of the event in Day 3 is that I supported the candidate of our program in the search for god and goddess 2017. I can say that our efforts for her were really worth it because she won the award which is Best in Formal Wear.

I can say that this event was a blast. The flow of the event during the first day up to third day  is very organized. Hopefully  for the coming years, the celebration is like this also.

Real News VS Fake News

by Kaila Christine L. Mecija

News is information about current events. News is provided through many different media: word of mouth, printing, postal systems, broadcasting, electronic communication, and also on the testimony of observers and witnesses to events. It is also used as a platform to manufacture opinion for the population. Common topics for news reports include war, government, politics, education, health, the environment, economy, business, fashion, and entertainment, as well as athletic events, quirky or unusual events. News is important in our daily lives because news is the one who informs us about the events in our surroundings. News can travel to the mass within a second only in this generation because the use of technology of the people nowadays is very often.

Originally information was spread verbally, as humans were still very primitive, but as technology advanced the means of information sharing advanced as well. What was once a verbal exchange of thoughts eventually transformed into a billion dollar industry, called journalism. During the early years, news can only be seen or hear in newspapers, television and radio but in the present time, it can also be seen in the internet with the use of computers or mobile devices. Social media is where the news circulates and where the news were seen by the readers. Social media are computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks. Users typically access social media services via web-based technologies on desktop, computers and laptops, or download services that offer social media functionality to their mobile devices. Social media changes the way individuals and large organizations communicate. These changes are the focus of the emerging fields of technoself studies. Social media differ from paper-based media such as magazines and newspapers or traditional electronic media such as TV broadcasting in many ways, including quality, reach, frequency, interactivity, usability, immediacy, and permanence.

Through the use of social media and mobile devices or computers, some of the news and information were being published in a wrong way because its content is not based on real facts or the information used in the news has no evidence to prove it real and this kind of news is called fake news. Fake news is a type of yellow journalism or propaganda that consists of deliberate misinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional print and broadcast news media or online social media. According to Joseph Morong, fake news are lies with no verifiable facts, sources, masquerading as news that's why they are copying a one legitimate source so that the readers of it will actually believe the facts that they made and not based on real information. Fake news can lead the readers to misinterpret the real situation because fake news can really cause a big confusion to its readers like what happened to the issue between Sen. Kiko Panglinan and Sen. Risa Hontiveros that they are having an affair and it also had a picture of them holding the hands of each other, but at the end the issue was revealed to be fake and the picture used as an evidence was photoshopped . Fake news often employs eye-catching headlines or entirely fabricated news stories to increase readership, online sharing and Internet click revenue. In the latter case, it is similar to sensational online "clickbait" headlines and relies on advertising revenue generated from this activity, regardless of the veracity of the published stories.  Fake news can really cause a big problem in our society and once the fake news spreads and informs its readers, it will really cause a major misinterpretation to the real situation.

Here in the Philippines, fake news is really popular and because of its popularity many Filipinos were victimized by this type of news. An example of this type of news is when there’s a news circulating online about cancelling of classes last November 28-30, 2017 and it was shared by 18,594 social media users. The technique of the maker of the fake news is that they edit and copy the graphics of one legitimate source so that it will be more suitable to believe. As it has around the world, the internet in the Philippines has become a morass of fake news and conspiracy theories, harassment and bullying. This has muddied public discourse and cultivated a populist attitude toward democracy. What is true, or legal, is no longer important as long as the majority supports it. Responsibility has been discarded for partisanship.

The opposite of fake news is real news. Real news contains legitimate information and it has real evidences to prove that the news article is safe to believe because there are so many fake news circulating online. Newsworthiness is defined as a subject having sufficient relevance to the public or a special audience to warrant press attention or coverage. Real news is the type of news that people should believe in because it has the real information that based on facts and not on mere opinions only or not based on made facts by someone that is not real. We should not be victimized by fake news so that we will be aware of what is happening in our society and also we should believe only in real news. People seem to be interested in news to the extent which it has a big impact, describes conflicts, happens nearby, involves well-known people, and deviates from the norms of everyday happenings. War is a common news topic, partly because it involves unknown events that could pose personal danger. As its name implies, "news" typically connotes the presentation of new information. Also a news based on real facts should be timely because sometimes if news is real but its not timely, readers of it might be lost its interest. According to a source, historians tend to view events as causally related manifestations of underlying processes, news stories tend to describe events in isolation, and to exclude discussion of the relationships between them. News is the source of information of information of everyone in this world about what is happening in their surroundings and society so news should be real and a news should not be a fake one. To make the news, an ongoing process must have some "peg", an event in time which anchors it to the present moment. news should be based in reality and example of it is the famous dictum that "Dog Bites Man" is not news, but "Man Bites Dog" is. Another corollary of the newness of news is that, as new technology enables new media to disseminate news more quickly, 'slower' forms of communication may move away from 'news' towards 'analysis'. You can tell if a news is real if you look at the writer’s bio. This can help you identify whether the item you’re reading is a reported news article (written by a journalist with the intent to inform), a persuasive opinion piece (written by an industry expert with a point of view), or something else entirely.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines “post-truth” as “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief. Fact checking is the act of checking factual assertions in non-fictional text in order to determine the veracity and correctness of the factual statements in the text. This may be done either before (ante hoc) or after (post hoc) the text has been published or otherwise disseminated.

News is really a big word that it cannot take as a joke because news is the source of every information circulating everywhere, it might be verbal or through the use of technology. We should learn how to differentiate real from fake so that we will not be victimized by the fake.
